Broun -A recipe before the holocaust
My Grandmother taught me this inexpensive and healthy food passed down to her from her mother.
In fact this recipe would be over 200 years old.
1 Pork leg chopped up (very cheap)
1 small carrot peeled and sliced.
2-3 cloves of garlic
1 .5 Onions
3-4 Bay leaves
Salt and pepper
Cover pork leg with water. Add onions, garlic, bay leaf, salt and pepper. Cook slowly until meat falls of bones.
Chop meat up throw fat away. ( bit messy.)
Place meet in shallow dishes arranging it.
Cool liquid until fat rises on top and solidifies then remove.
Add carrots to liquid and cook carrots.
Pour liquid over meat. Let it set for a few hours.
Serve with horseradish or mustard and garlic bread.
In Hungary we used to have it with black tea and rum with honey delicious.
